Will of Moses Walker

In the name of God Amen. I, Moses Walker of the County of Person and State of North Carolina, being of sound and perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God for his mercies, do this 29th day of May in the year One Thousand Eight Hundred & Six, make and publish this my last will and testament in manner as follows that is to say. First - I give to my daughter Elizabeth Bull and her husband Jacob Bull, ten shillings. Also, I lend to Elizabeth

& Jacob Bull, two negroes by name Joe and Bet, during their natural lives. At their death, I give the said negro Joe to my grandson Samuel Bull, to him, his heirs forever. I give the increase of the said negro Bet to be equally divided between all of the children of my daughter Elizabeth Bull. Also, I give the said negro Bet to my granddaughter Elizabeth Bull, to her heirs forever.

Item - I give to my granddaughter Nancy Blackwell one negro boy Jim, to her heirs and assigns forever.

Item - I give to Jemima Chambers, ten shillings, to her and her heirs forever. Also, I lend to Jemima and Abner Chambers, two negroes by name James and Lucy, during their natural lives. At their death, I give the negro James to my grandson Moses Chambers, to him, his heirs forever. The increase of the said negro Lucy, I desire to be equally divided between the children of my daughter Jemima Chambers, to them, their heirs & assigns forever. I give the said Lucy to my grandson Martin Chambers at the death of his mother to him his heirs and assigns forever.

Item - I give to my daughter Martha Donaldson & her husband Robert Donaldson, ten shillings, to them, their heirs forever. I also lend to Martha and Robert Donaldson one negro boy Bob during their natural lives. Upon their death, I give the said negro boy Bob to my grandson Buckley Donaldson, to him, his heirs & assigns forever. Also, I lend to Martha & Robert Donaldson one negro woman Jean during their natural lives. Upon the death of Martha & Robert Donaldson I give the said negro to my grandson Barnett Donaldson, except the increase of the said Jean the child Ned, which the said Jean has now, I give to my grandson Moses Donaldson, to him, his heirs forever. Also, the second child, the said Jean has, I give to my granddaughter Elizabeth Morton, to her, her heirs & assigns forever. The rest of her increase to be Barnett Donaldson's, his heirs and assigns forever. Also, I lend Martha & Robert Donaldson one negro boy Frank during their natural lives. At their deaths, I give the said negro Frank to my grandson Thomas Donaldson, to him his heirs & assigns forever.

Item - I give to my son Buckley Walker one negro, one by the name of Junor, on conditions the heirs of Jesse Walker dec'd recover by a suit in law one negro woman and child which I sold my son Buckley Walker. Also, the bonds which he owes me for Sal & children, the said negro Junor & bond of two hundred & sixty six dollars is to be good against their recovery. If they do not recover Sal & two children the above bond to be return to my estate. Also, I give to my son Buckley Walker the land whereon he lives - Beginning at the line where it crosses Buckley Walker's spring branch on McFarland's line thence down the spring branch to Castle Creek; thence a direct course crossing said creek to the mouth of the spring branch where Frances Walker lives; thence up the said spring branch to the line; thence north including all that part of my land where the said Frances Walker lives, also all that part north of the line mentioned, to him, his heirs & assigns forever.

Item - I give to my wife Anne Walker two negroes Ben & Bet together with all my stock of all kind, household and kitchen furniture, together with my land not heretofore given away during her widowhood and at her death or marriage I give to my daughter Leatha Walker all that part of my estate I have lent my wife Anne Walker, to her heirs and assigns forever.

Item - I give to my granddaughter Davie one negro girl named Alse & to the heirs of her body & if the said Nancy Davie dies without issue the said negro is to return to my estate and sold, the money arising to be equally divided amongst all my children.

Item - My will and desire is that my two negro boys Billy & Stepney be hired out by my executors hereafter named till the suit be determined between the heirs of Jesse Walker dec'd and myself & if the heirs recover the negroes they have sued for then the two boys be sold with my land on the west side of Castle Creek to pay the damage recovered against my estate.

Item - My will and desire is that my negro woman O'Jean together with part of my crop now growing be sold to pay all my just debts. I hereby constitute and appoint William Pinick and John Gwin my lawful executors to this my last will and testament. In witness I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and date above written.
